First barefoot half marathon – June 27th 2010

Today I ran my first half marathon barefoot, my time was 1:51:06. My town has this half marathon yearly, it’s a great race, with a great course. I ran the race last year shod with a time of 1:48:31, I really wanted to match or beat my shod speed but it didn’t happen. But I had a goal to keep a 8:30 pace in which I achieved, technically I had a 8:28 pace, but who’s keeping track. The temp was 85 degrees and humid at start time which was 8:30am. I kind of enjoy running in the heat.

A few positive things I noticed, the first uphill and downhill running. I have always enjoyed running hills, running uphill barefoot seems effortless now. I have been doing a lot of downhill running where I live and this was the first time I had a change to judge my form and how efficient I was doing compared to other runners. I seem to have mastered the art of running downhill barefoot. I noticed a lot of breaking action going on with other runners, I certainly remember doing the same in shoes. Now I just it let it rip, increase my cadence, and keep up with the flow of my feet. I lean in a little to completely keep my weight on the forefoot. And lastly going the distance with less fatigue in the legs.

My sweetie is proud of her snowman she made, or I should say Sammy as the name she gave him. Family skate day. My mom at a young 70 lacing up the skates! My favorite girl.
#mysweetie So intense. Power and strength to the max. Who says dinosaurs don’t exist. Sunday morning 3 mile barefoot run. Blowing the dust off the skins. I like to incorporate deadlifts with my back workout. This was my last set of 240lbs for 6 reps. Seeking that 300lb mark down the road.

It’s starting to warmup in the garage, 25 degrees this morning. “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” MLK 🔥
