Some thoughts.

First i have to say this has been a fantastic summer. Given the fact the my family and i have a very busy schedule, we did a lot of fun things together. Went on a few little getaways, and had some significant beach time, which always is important. I officially finish college in July, and now my wife is in full-swing pursuing her master’s degree. My oldest son starts kindergarten in September so that is very exciting for him and me. My two boys are doing great.

As far as barefoot running, it’s been a very great summer. Been averaging about 100 barefoot miles a month, and that last time i ran with any type of footwear was the last day in February. Living in New England, winter will be here before I know it and the thought of running in footwear is not appealing at all. So I will just run barefoot all winter! Why not have a goal or a challenge. I say this every but as I gain my more experience i gain more tolerance to the cold.

The most important thing i have noticed is I am settling down into my own realm of barefoot running, and more importantly just my own comfort zone in running. Hanging out in “barefoot running forums” you tend to notice trends and novelties that can somewhat be persuasive. I am trying to ween myself of forums now. Barefoot running forums are basically minimal shoe forums now.

Really my point is i feel into this comfort zone of running. I had this thought of doing an ultra, and quite honestly i have no desire at all to run an ultra. The marathon distance is long enough for me right now. I don’t even like running long distances. Maybe someday when my kids are older and the time is right for training i would like to attempt a 50 miler, but for now doing a marathon a year is sufficient enough.

My reactions exactly. Happy Birthday to my boy Andrew who turns 11 today.  There he is at 3 joining me at the finish of my first marathon.  I was about 50 yards from the finish line, spotted him in the crowd and wave and out he shoots to join me to the finish line. Such an awesome memory I will never forget. This is great! The Cove. Barefoot running and gravel paths!? Call it a nice massage on the feet. I never tried or thought about deadlifts when younger. Now at the ripe age of 46 I discovered how awesome they are.  With 3 weeks in I hit 190lbs for 5 reps on my last set. Thanks to my son for the recording.
