First snow fall and first snow run for 2011

Let me start by saying I already failed at my quest to be an all year seasoned barefoot runner, which is my quest every year, but Mother Nature snaps me back into reality.  I’d rather run than not run, and would rather run outside in the winter than on a rat wheel.  I wore my sprints today.  We had a pretty good snow fall yesterday, and this morning it was slushy, wet, and cold (33 degrees) before my run.  Definitely not ideal weather to even try to run it barefoot.  So I slipped on the sprints (first time in 6 months that I ran in footwear) and hit the road. I don’t wear socks with the sprints, and my feet and toes were fine considering my feet were submerged in slush puddles throughout the run.  I ran 4.5 miles, then took off the sprints once I got close to my house and hit the street, snow, and slush bare for a bit, trust me it wasn’t long.  I can’t totally deprive the soles, and winter conditioning is not a bad thing.

As far as my gimpy left foot, I zoned in on the major problem area, which is the Tibialis Posterior Muscle.  I am doing some self rehab strengthening exercises to hopefully get it stronger.

First snow of the season. My son and I at the finish of the 5 mile Turkey Trot Rusty as a bag of nails, but it’s a good outlet. 5 mile Turkey Trot tradition. 20+ years running this race with my sister. My son made his debut today, fantastic job! Deadlifts. This was my last set of 225lbs, a new PR.

Had my son Andrew @parkor_boy23 filming and working out with me as well. Finally Optimal Nutrition comes out with a plant based protein.  Most protein powder has a lot of garbage in it, artificial flavors, gluten, dextrin, soy etc. which I try to avoid. I’m not a Vegan/Vegetarian but like a clean supplement. The taste is spot on. Not grainy or “earthy” tasting.  Very happy with this.

I don’t have heat In my garage it was a crisp 32 degrees, but don’t mind.  Some benefits of having a home gym is no travel time, no people, and you can wear your comfies.
This was my last set of benching at 170lbs Fall fun.
