Running Barefoot in the Fall…and Acorns.

As much as I harp about how I love summer, there is a soft spot in my heart for fall.  Living in New England it’s a beautiful time of the year. As God designs the trees with his creative colors, the foliage is amazing.  I wish I can have Fall until spring and skip winter, wishful thinking I know, I need to move in order for that to happen. Maybe some day.  Anyways back on the topic.  Fall is also a great time to be outside running barefoot, the cooler temps of the roads, or trails, wherever you may roam.  The cool air in your lungs, running through the fallen leaves on the ground always brings a youthful energy to me for some reason.
On the other hand during the Fall season you have these!

Tis the season of acorns, my beloved nemesis whom always tests my performance as I run in the early mornings with no sunlight. It’s a fun game of Russian roulette, you never know when the next zap will come. I do wear a head lamp in the morning but you can’t escape these things.  These small but mighty acorns keep a barefoot runner honest and humbled but it’s part of the deal, embrace the seasons and all the obstacles that come with it. The stuff we barefoot runners talk about that people who run in footwear don’t even blink an eye at, we are cut from a different cloth.
Usually around Mid-October is when the mass flood of acorns descend to the earth.  It’s cool and eerie as the same time when I head out for my run at 5am and it’s just me and the world before humans awake, and I hear the acorns falling on cars, aluminum sheds, houses, the roads, etc.  Who’s there?!?   I can definitely freak myself out when I’m on a quiet, dark secluded  road.  Oh yeah that reminds me the “The Walking Dead” starts again this Sunday!  Happy Fall everyone!

Ran the Fairfield CT half marathon this morning. Came in with a time off 1:50:12. This was my 8th consecutive year running this race, and barefoot. My training was super light. Maybe 12-15 miles per week with no speed training, or fancy workouts, all runs were slow. I started lifting weights again, and noticed a big difference with running. The weight training is what pulled me through. The best snack/protein bar out there. Definitely no BS.
@rxbar Great Father's Day hanging at the beach. Off to Andrew's 5th grade graduation. Next stop Middle School! Showing my daughter the ropes, but kids don't need any lessons running barefoot, we are born to do it properly.

Street Art. Friday evening at the beach. My little sweetie is growing up. We were stuck in traffic and I snapped a quick picture of her and it's crazy to notice the changes of your children at certain points.
